Philly Painting - A Community Mural

On an early morning in May 2018 I was driving to Philly. Traffic on the highway was backed up, as usual, and Google Maps routed me a different way. I ended up driving through part of Germantown Ave that is a huge neighborhood mural, took a quick picture, and looked up more information later.

This project is called Philly Painting, and it was done by the same people who did the Favela Painting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Philly Painting’s Vimeo account has a bunch of short videos documenting the project, and I’ve embedded them below to make it easy for you to watch them in order. Check out this really cool project and what the community had to say about it!

In video #4 you can see the tour guide, Keenan, standing in front of the block in my photo. 

He says the neighborhood to the west is called Beirut because it was like growing up in a war zone.

I love seeing projects like this with community involvement!
