If you're ever between Fort Lauderdale and Miami, make sure you visit Oleta River State Park.  There are many creeks and waterways to explore, and it opens into Biscayne Bay.  You're pretty much guaranteed to see some iguanas, sting rays, birds, and maybe even a manatee!

Christmas Pickles!  There is a tradition in which a pickle-shaped ornament is hidden somewhere on the Christmas tree, and the children of the household compete to find it on Christmas Day.  Whoever finds it gets good luck for the coming year or gets to open the first gift.  Sounds like fun!

I always thought the tradition of hanging a pickle on the Christmas tree was either German or Moravian, but Wikipedia says that it was most likely started in the US.  Have you heard of this tradition?
